Commentary

The fate of this inscription, as well as of the others from the excavations of Nicorescu, is unknown: it has not been possible to locate them in Belgorod, Jasi, or Bucarest.

3-4. The inscription is so badly fragmented that it is impossible to restore a continuous text. The characteristic vocabulary, however, allows us to suggest that it was either an honorific decree or another state honorific inscription.

The proposed restorations seem most likely, but even then the length of the line cannot be established, since ornamental epithets could have modified the word δῆμος in a manner common this period. Other restorations are also possible, e.g. τειμηθέντα vel sim. ὑπὸ τῆς Τυρανῶν] βουλῆς τ[ειμαῖς ταῖς ἀρίσταις vel sim.

5. Here, we may restore some formula with the word "time", common in honorific inscriptions, e.g. ἐκ παλαιῶν] χρόν[ων, εἰς τὸν ἅπαντα] χρόν[ον vel sim.
