Commentary
Latyshev twice (1892a, 37, № 31; 1896, №29) published a drawing of this inscription upside down, and therefore offered no reading. His mistake might have something to do with an expectation that a text should appear under rather than above the cross.
On the name John, see commentary to V 64.
The shape of the cross is similar to that of V 46.
