Translation

Lord, help your servant Kyriakos, a captain, and all sailors, and George, a sinner.

Commentary

In preparing his edition, Latyshev relied on the transcription of Gerts, where several letterforms were incorrectly represented. It was Gerts who dated the inscription to "Christian times" - but due to the lack of images (drawing or photograph), it is not possible to say anything more precise about the date.

2. On the formula, see Introduction IV.3.E.a.

3. On the name Kyriakos (here Kyreakos), see commentary to V 72.

4-5. Invocations of sailors are relatively common in Byzantine epigraphy: they are often associated with a special venerated place (see Kourtzian 2000, 135–200).

6. George (here Georgeos), mentioned separately from the sailors, was probably the author of the inscription.
