Translation

Lord, help your servant Zacharias (?), a monk and...

Commentary

The inscription was published by Kirchhoff in CIG IV on the basis of the notes left by Dubois de Montpéreux, but in the works of the latter this monument is not found.

1–4. Kirchhoff considered the inscription to be an epitaph, but the formula contradicts his supposition - it is a typical invocation (see Introduction IV.3.E.a).

5. The name Zacharias also occurs in V 251, and in the same abbreviated form (cf. (ср.I.Eph. 4237; Jerphanion 1936, № 203)).

6. For the same abbreviation of the word μοναχὸς, see an inscription from Asia Minor, XIIIth century (Avi Yonah 1940, 87).

7. For the formula "a monk and..." compare V 68 (1183 C.E.)
