Translation

[O Giver of my[steries (?), God, we] call upon you, [...]yvaea, child of comes [... and...]at, son of Mounze...

Commentary

The inscription was built into a wall of the palace of 1425 (Loeper 1914, 297–300). Judging by the cornice, the stone was an architectural member. The shape of beta with bottom underline dates it to the X-XIth century.

The gist of the inscription is an appeal, apparently to God, by noble Theodorites, one of whom had a title of comes (cf. V 151 and V 227). It is somewhat strange that the name of a female infant is found at the beginning of the text, unless the inscription was set up as a supplication or thanksgiving for her recovery from illness.

4. The name Mounze can be compared with a toponym (?) Μουνζούρη (in the genitive) in MAMA I 260.
